The performance of surface sizing agents during the sizing process is affected by various environmental factors. For example, the pH of the system, conductivity, temperature, as well as the sizing method of the paper machine and the drying process, all influence the sizing effect of surface sizing agents. For instance, when the temperature of the coating system is too high, it can lead to severe hydrolysis of AKD-type surface sizing agents, resulting in an increased product usage; when the content of impurity ions in the coating system is too high, it can easily cause the flocculation of polymer-type surface sizing agents, making normal sizing impossible; when the drying temperature of the paper machine is insufficient, it can prevent the surface sizing agent from fully spreading on the paper surface, leading to poor sizing effects or excessively long curing times.
