Comparison of starch in slurry and sprayed starch

Starch is widely used in the paper industry, and can be mainly divided into three categories based on usage: wet-end starch, surface sizing starch, and coating starch. The application of wet-end starch mainly involves two aspects: addition in the pulp and spraying starch in the wire section. Here we will mainly compare the two aspects of wet-end starch application!
The addition in the pulp mainly involves quaternary ammonium cationic starch, with a degree of substitution (DS) of 0.02-0.03, which needs to be gelatinized before use. The main purpose is to improve the comprehensive physical strength indicators of the paper (including tensile strength, burst strength, fold endurance, ring crush strength, etc.), and to reduce the amount of high-quality fiber raw materials used. When combined with retention and drainage aids, it improves the retention of chemical raw materials and reduces the concentration of white water.
Spraying starch is mainly native starch, primarily used in board paper and tube paper, and does not require gelatinization. The purpose is to improve the stiffness, ring crush strength, interlayer bonding, and other indicators of the paper.
Spraying starch should meet the following conditions:
1. Good bonding performance with fibers.
2. A lower gelatinization temperature, allowing it to gelatinize and act promptly and quickly as the paper passes through the drying cylinder.
3. A lower viscosity and higher bonding strength.
4. Small particle size, capable of producing a good mist through the spraying system, evenly distributed on the paper sheet, with particles that do not clog the nozzle.
